September 11, 2011- Never Forget

There are moments in our life that we live to never forget. 9/11 was most certainly one of the most detrimental dates that impacted our lives. Intercoastal Salvage Inc was called to provide a service in the most catastrophic historic events that shook our nation. Nancy and Jorge recount this experience by remembering the emotional decisions that were taken when they were called 10 days after the tragic event.

A Call to Help

Nancy said, “I remember getting a call from the operations manager from a company we worked for prior. He called me to ask for our services to clean up the debris and torch the steel beams that were left from the buildings that were destroyed. My first response fueled by fear and hesitancy was “NO”, however this individual stressed that we were being called in a catastrophic moment and we went ahead and accepted the call.

Jorge recalls ” I remember getting on a Southwest Flight to travel to Ground Zero and the plane being completely empty. We were the only two passengers taking flight after this date. The fear was so thick you could cut it with a knife and the atmosphere was very somber. When we got to New York we went straight to Ground Zero to look at the site we would working in we walked several blocks where we took pictures, we saw the magnitude and devastation our country suffered through this senseless attack. The smell was unforgettable, we had to wear PAPR masks because of the Anthrax threat that followed. We were told that we were going to have to work out of Newark NJ and that at that they would bring over the material because it was unsafe and too hazardous to work from Ground Zero.
